St. Mark AME Church
Christian Explorers Sunday School Class…
Making a Difference Beyond Our Church Walls
On January 12, 2009, Haiti was rocked by one of the worst earthquakes in its history.
According to geologist, the magnitude 7 earthquake that struck Haiti was the strongest earthquake to hit the region in more than two centuries!
The January 2009 earthquake in Haiti TOTALLY destroyed four of the nine A.M.E. churches and the rebuilding cost for these four basic structures is estimated at $1.5 million U.S. dollars!
As a result of the devastation and a very real need to help, the Christian Explorers Adult Sunday School Class of St. Mark, made the decision to assist our Sister Church the 16th Episcopal District of the AME Church that was destroyed as a result of the earthquake.
To date, we have donated a total of $9,050.00! Collecting $2,050.00 in 2010 and $7,000 from our 2011 tournament and personal donations! These funds were sent to Bishop Sarah F. Davis of the Sixteenth Episcopal District of the AME Church.
Proceeds from this year's golf outing event will be added to our yearly donation that helps support our sister churches in their rebuilding efforts!
